New black box from DirectLine is being trialed to cut insurance premiums

DirectLine has decided to trail black box technology to help young drivers kerb their rising insurance premiums, which are currently deterring many young drivers from gaining one of their most important bits of independance.

The black box works by sending data from within the car using a satellite, monitoring how someone drives, the distance they drive and what time of the day.

A penalty system can penalise drivers who are acting recklessly or less favourably, i.e. sudden stops and fast cornering. This obviously leads to safe drivers being given reduced premiums and careless drivers being forced to higher fees for their insurance.

I for one certainly know how I would drive with one of these installed if I was a young driver and hopefully it will save lives.
